Date: May 31, 2024
Place: Govindhamedu, Kilachery
The Madras Central Council (MCC) proudly commenced its fourth housing project on May 31, 2024, in Govindhamedu, Kilachery. This initiative is part of the Council's ongoing commitment to social welfare, achieved through the unique “Self Contribution to Social Welfare Scheme through Hundi”. Under this scheme, each member of the affiliated conferences is given a Hundi annually to save money by making small sacrifices throughout the year.
So far, MCC has successfully provided three houses to deserving beneficiaries through this scheme. This year, the selected beneficiary is a widow with two children—a boy and a girl, the latter being an intellectually challenged special child. The beneficiary, who works as a servant-maid in nearby houses for their livelihood, previously lived in a thatched hut on her own land, which was damaged in a rainstorm three years ago. Currently, she resides in a rented house.
The beneficiary sought assistance from the Tiruvallur Conference (St. Francis de Sales Conference), and MCC responded by laying the foundation stone for her new home on May 31, 2024. The occasion was honored by the presence of Bro. Alfons ten Velde, Treasurer General of the Council General International, SSVP, and blessed by Rev. Fr. Clement Balasamy, Spiritual Advisor of Tiruvallur Area Council and Vicar Forane of Tiruvallur. Bro. A. Lawrence, President of Madras Central Council, along with the board members of MCC, Bro. S. John Britto Stephen, President of Tiruvallur Area Council, Bro. P. Kingsly, President of St. Francis de Sales Conference, Tiruvallur, and other members of the Tiruvallur conference, graced the event with their presence.
This project exemplifies the spirit of collective effort and generosity embodied by the Madras Central Council, as they continue to transform lives through their selfless contributions and dedication to social welfare.
